"Awakened from Years of Slumber": The Economic Impact of the Charleston Renaissance Painters

In explication of the unique and integral role artists assumed in the cultural and commerical resurgence of twentieth century Charleston, curatorial intern Sara Shealy will present a gallery talk at the opening reception on Friday, December 7 at 6:00 p.m. Drawn from the collection's holdings of Charleston material, this show of over thirty works includes oil paintings, watercolors, and etchings by Alfred Hutty, Elizabeth O'Neill Verner, Alice Ravenel Huger Smith, Anthony Thieme, Birge Harrison, and others. The Johnson Collection currently offers two competitive, comprehensive internships to students at Converse College and Wofford College each academic year.
