Art of the Athlete Fun Fact:
Thomason was well known for attending sports events (wrestling and football) around the Charlotte area, and it became a theme in his work throughout the 1960s.
"This painting powerfully depicts college football's passion, struggle, and teamwork, especially the fierce UNC rivalry. The players’ intensity and the chaotic movement capture the raw emotion and physical sacrifice that are part of the game. As a football player, I recognize the determination in every player; as an artist, I appreciate how the painting channels the energy of an ongoing rivalry into something timeless. It is a strong reminder that sports are more than competition, they are a shared story of commitment and pride." -Al Wooten II 2024 Duke Running Back
