Art of the Athlete Fun Fact:
Black Mountain College provided a holistic, avant-garde education. This meant that "extracurricular" activities like tennis and hiking were just as important to the curriculum as the liberal arts classes.
"This piece reminds me of the moment you strike a tennis ball. The split second where the ball is compressed and connects with the strings of the racket is magnified here. You wait as you swing, time slowing as the ball compiles its kinetic energy so the strings can transfer the power to send it across the court. The yellow orb is hidden behind the active ink lines, as if you are looking at the racket from behind the player, watching the energy be received moments before an ace.” - Michael Henson, TJC Intern, Wofford College
