Shared Spaces
Alive with Art

A pictorial calling card for the robust cultural ambience of Spartanburg, South Carolina, as evidenced by an eclectic, county-wide array of public art.

Produced in collaboration with Hub City Press, On Common Ground: The Public Art of Spartanburg features 120 pages of brilliant full-color images by local photographer Carroll Foster, pictures that testify to the remarkable wealth and variety of public art in TJC's hometown. On side streets and college campuses, in community parks and along river banks, at corporate headquarters and art centers, Spartanburg is filled with visual interventions that offer a moment for pause in the everyday, invite citizens to shift their gaze, and inspire conversation. Published in 2015, On Common Ground celebrates a city's enthusiastic embrace of art in shared spaces.
