Art of the Athlete Fun Fact:
One of the most famous artists fascinated with dance is Edgar Degas, who painted ballet classes that revealed the real people who expended a great deal of athletic effort in order to look effortlessly graceful.

"Dance defines itself as an art and sport by two key components, body lines and movement. To me, this piece expresses those two elements through the use of linework that is both strong, emphasizing the power and athleticism of the dancer, and light, expressing grace and motion. The use of negative space emphasizes the body, the almost singular tool for expression in dance, while the lines near the feet ground our perspective with the model. This piece embodies quintessential dance, purity of form and elegance in power." - Will Scott, Company Artist and Educator, Ballet Spartanburg
