This delicate portrait reveals Thomason’s debt to his teacher and friend, George Luks. Like many of his mentor’s paintings, it is a quick character study that captures the essence of a young girl, coy and as sweet as her candy. Thomason employed a loaded brush and broad strokes, qualities that were repeatedly mentioned in the Charlotte press: “bold and rugged,” and “vigorous treatments.”
