TJC develops and lends exhibitions that bring our art into conversation with new perspectives. Through partnerships with museums and cultural institutions, these exhibitions expand access to Southern art. All exhibitions are lent free of charge, making Southern art accessible to every eye.

How it Works
Loans and exhibitions are offered without lending fees. Requests are reviewed individually based on the proposed project, suitability of the requested works, exhibition schedule, environmental and security standards, and the borrower’s ability to provide appropriate care and handling throughout the loan period.
Recent loan highlights include two works by Minnie Evans to the Whitney Museum of American Art’s The Lost World: The Art of Minnie Evans, a pendant pair by Joshua Johnson to The Columbus Museum’s Circa 1776, and Jean Varda’s Veiled Figures to Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center’s Black Mountain COLL(A)GE.

The Johnson Collection welcomes loan requests from museums, universities, and nonprofit cultural institutions for exhibitions, research initiatives, and scholarly projects that advance understanding of American art, particularly the art of the American South.
