Thomason was an avid fisherman and as a youth had enjoyed many fishing expeditions along the Catawba River. Two figures near the center cast their lines downstream with poses that reiterate the gaunt and leafless branches along the stream. Their brown jackets and green pants are camouflaged, virtually matching the rocks that surround them. Touches of red paint, however, serve to accent them and bring attention to their activities.
