Eola Willis studied under William Merritt Chase at the Art Students League in New York. Willis, a multi-talented artist, musician, and writer from Dalton, Georgia, studied under Chase from 1896 to 1899. After completing her training, which included a brief stint in Paris, Willis moved to Charleston, South Carolina. There, she devoted her professional energies to introducing Southern culture to a national audience through her own paintings and scholarly publications, as well as her involvement in regional and international exhibitions.
