Text folders for Portfolio I and II

Following the success of Interaction of Color, published by Yale University Press in 1963 with an instructional booklet and 150 silkscreen color prints, Josef collaborated with Ives & Sillman again in 1972 to produce this set of two portfolios.

Each of the 1000 editions of Formulation: Articulation features 66 screen prints that demonstrate key lessons in color theory, texture, line, and space that Josef Albers taught for so many years at Black Mountain College. Many of Albers's most recognizable concepts, like "Homage to the Square," "Variant/Adobe," "Structural Constellation" are represented within the two folios. Though they were originally intended to be classroom educational tools, many of these folders are now framed and treated as works of fine art in their own right.
