UNC Bell Hall: Where Art and Business Meet

In keeping with its mission to share Art of the American South with audiences across our region and beyond, The Johnson Collection is pleased to present thirty two works of art now on display at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Highlighting artists and artworks with legacies tied to North Carolina, the exhibition, Art in Exchange, is on permanent display at UNC’s newly opened Steven D. Bell Hall at the Kenan-Flagler Business School.

Bell Hall is tailor-made to bolster innovative learning experiences. It is designed to foster the building of personal connections and academic collaborations across the UNC Kenan-Flagler community and the UNC campus. TJC is honored to share its artwork in the Geordy Johnson Student Lounge, named after the son of TJC’s founders, Geordy Johnson—an MBA graduate of the Kenan-Flagler School of Business.

On display in custom museum cases, Art in Exchange provides a window into the vast historical network of cultural exchange through North Carolina art. In this setting, viewers participate in the interchange of memories from artists of the past, like 19th-century landscape artist William Frerichs, and sensibilities of the new age—works of art connected to the spirited arts enclave of Black Mountain College. More artwork is visible on the walls of the ground floor, like a Blue Rip Shift by UNC, Chapel Hill, alum and longtime former professor, Robert Barnard.
